Homage to Amazonia Live: Conservation Hero Award

No forests, no future. This is the name of the event that celebrated the 30 years of Conservation International and all its work to protect the Amazon rainforest. The gala event was held in Los Angeles on November 2 and honored Rock in Rio with the Conservation Hero Award, an award that recognizes the transformation impacts of Amazonia Live project’s commitment and actions for the environment, planet and people.

In addition to Rock in Rio, SC Johnson was honored with the same award and actor Harrison Ford, a member of the Board of Directors of Conservation International, received the Founders’ Award for his work supporting the institution for more than 25 years.

The two honored institutions are connected through the largest forest restoration in the Amazon. It’s the result of a partnership between the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the World Bank, the Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity (Funbio), Conservation International (CI-Brasil), Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA) and Rock in Rio’s social-environmental initiative, the Amazonia Live. The initiative foresees the recovery of 73 million trees in the Brazilian Amazon region – the equivalent to 30,000 hectares – until 2023. Funds guaranteed by SC Johnson are part of the funding for this great collective effort. The special evening was attended by renowned Brazilian chef Alex Atala, elected by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He created a special dish for the night, using mushrooms from the Amazon and exploring the theme of the event: No Forests, No Future. The evening highlighted the importance and great benefits of protecting one of the planet’s most important ecosystems: tropical rainforests, especially the Amazon
